Abstract:
The social upheaval towards the civil society has been
accompanied with the establishment of governmental agencies. Modern
societies will achieve development when everybody would involve in
the government and a strong relationship would be confirmed between
them. Development theorists believe that government agencies can
develop and empower employees” commitment towards society and the
organization by enabling and involving employees in decision-making
process, participating, and also expanding and improving formal and
informal relationships between staff. The study was conducted to
examine the impact of social relationships on employees” commitment
that is referred to as social capital. Employees” commitment is also
important because with the existence of organizational commitment in
the workplace, the staff would able to work away from the conflict, and
this trend could be possible with social capital. Content of social capital
includes values, norms and social bonds that are formed in social
relations. Thereby, the staff increases their own capabilities and benefits
the environmental and social support in social – connective networks.
In this research, various theories of social capital have been studied.
Particularly the theories of Nehapit and Goshal on the three-dimensional
model of social capital are provided. The social capital has three
dimensions, namely: structural, cognitive and communicative the impact
of which have been studied on the organizational commitment of
employees based on Allen and Meyer”s model.
The results show that there is a significant relationship between
social capital, structural and communicative dimensions and social
capital on the organizational commitment of employees, but the
cognitive dimension has no relationship with the organizational
commitment of employees.
